Get To Know Us
SELF International, Inc. is a non profit educational organization, based in South Minneapolis,
bringing exciting opportunities in STEM to underserved communities. We offer fun, “hands on”, creative, cutting
edge exploration into science and engineering for youths, ages 5 – 17.
Based on a mobile science concept, we bring science expertise to
schools, community centers, and organizations which have little or no
scientific resources. Our goal is to
reach students as young as possible to stimulate their natural curiosity and
help them explore channels of scientific and technological study to prepare
them to enter high school and college level academic paths which will lead them
to jobs in science and technology.
Recently we partnered with Sabathani Community Center’s Horizons Youth Program to offer a Summer Science Camp. Nanoscience was the focus for the program and we ended the summer program making nano ice cream with help from a chemistry graduate student at the University of Minnesota. Plans are under way for incorporating a full time STEM project into the Horizons Youth Program. There will be after school science clubs for Lego Robotics and Girls In STEM, Saturday science workshops for families, and more summer Nano camp. We will be participating in the National NanoWeek, April 1 – 6, with a full day Saturday, NanoDay event for families. This is sponsored by N.I.S.E. Net. (Nanoscale Informal Science Education Network). We operate with the cooperation of the University of Minnesota and the Science Museum of Minnesota.
